Acer, a common choice for netbook aicionados has launched a couple new desktop systems with a sleek new design meant to both look cool and be cool. Overheating is a common factor in numerous consumer grade distributed desktops and the Aspire X3 and M3series are looking to change that while still looking nifty to boot.
While Acer does not typically take orders from their web site and distribute through venues such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and other companies who sell computer and computer equipment, it does not mean they are slouches in the market of consumer grade products.
The lower end of the X3 series of their desktops includes the following.
AMD Athlon II X4 Processor 620 with 512 KB caches (per core), clocked at 2.60 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 9200
4GB (two two gigabyte sticks) included up to 8GB supported of DDR3 1333 SDRAM
1 TB variable speed super drive hard drive
Multiple card reader (for SD cards for cameras and other devices
VGA and HDMI ports
1 PCI-Express x16 low profile port (for expansion to your graphics capabilities)
Optical SPDIF
Audio in and out (headphone/microphone)
eSATA port
Nine USB Ports
RJ-45 Gigabit LAN
220 Watt Power Supply
This is just the low end, now, the 220 Watt Power Supply will limit most graphics card upgrades, you will most likely not be able to go extremely higher end without a power supply upgrade as well, but at the very least this is a good starter point for someone who wants to, at the very least manage photos and video and possibly play a few games that may be slightly older than about 3-5 years.
The operating system included is Windows 7 Home Premium, which also allows this PC to be used as a media center PC, for those who wish to use it as such.
