A Look at the Upcoming Acer Iconia Dual-touchscreen Laptop

Tech giant Acer has come up with the yet to be released in a month dual-touchscreen laptop. It was revealed on 23rd of November at a press conference in New York City. It is set to be launched first in Spain on January 28th 2011. It consists of one screen as a normal laptop screen we are used to but the other is placed where the keyboard would be in a traditional laptop. Basically, they are two large touchpads connected and integrated with each other to be used as a laptop.

The traditional laptop hinge links this 14-inch dual-touchscreens together. The LCD screens are made of the strong gorilla glass and like the ipad come with a function of 10 finger simultaneous touch. This fine piece of technology is going to be for sale at 1500 Euros but being jam-packed with features like "alive"- a program used to download applications, music and videos and "clear fi"- to share data with mobile devices online and it has a sleek futuristic look, so many presume it to be worth the money.

The laptop will come with Windows 7 installed but also has the Acer proprietary operating system and an Intel i5 processor. It will store a good amount of data on its 640 to 700 GB hard disk, which will be easily accessed by the modest DDR3 RAM of 4GB. The Iconia weighs 6.1pounds or 2.8 kg. The Iconia will have four ports two being 2.0USB, one 3.0USB and a HDMI out port. It will also have standard 1.3 MP Webcam and Bluetooth connectivity. The key board will be a virtual one similar to those seen in any smart touch phone.

The major reason most people are attracted to this device is the dual-touchscreens with 1,366x768 displays. This is definitely one of the devices that could be a glimpse into the future. Majority of touch devices integrated with windows 7 have problems and is not extremely user friendly but the Iconia being both a dual-touchscreen and a laptop could break that chain. Nothing has yet been said about the 4-cell battery life. It is assumed to be a bit shorter than a normal laptop as this one has 2 screens to feed. The very futuristic feature which the Iconia possesses is the gesture recognizer whereby if you touch the screen with 5 fingers and make a grabbing gesture the Acer ring media player appears where in you can scroll various social sites, audio and video. Similarly, the gesture editor is where you can assign various tasks or applications to touch gestures of your choice.

In the case of typing long word documents the virtual keyboard on the dual-touchscreens pose a few problems but for small sentences like on facebook and twitter typing is pretty normal. This New Year will be something to look forward to with the Acer Iconia.
