The Acer Iconia Tab is a tablet that is definitely a competitor with the iPad and other tablets; however, it may not completely measure up to the iPad in a number of ways.
The Acer Iconia Tab that I own is a500 version. It only has a Wi-Fi connection and is currently not sold with any data plans, which is beneficial because the price is much lower than the iPad or any other tablet that is sold with a data plan. Furthermore, the price of the Acer Iconia Tab will continue to drop so that it can become a more competitive product. The Tab has the Android operating system on it, which is an excellent system that is complemented with numerous useful applications.
The Tab is an incredibly attractive product. It looks regal and debonair with its brushed aluminum. It can be held in a single hand because of its rounded edges, but is still somewhat cumbrous to support with one hand from the back because it isn't as light as an iPad. However, the extra weight comes with the benefit of an enormous screen that make it perfect for streaming videos, editing pictures, or watching movies. I watch videos all the time on the Tab and the visual is clarion clear and the sound emitted by the Tab's speakers is of better quality and richness than other tablets despite the miniscule size of the speakers.
The memory and speed of the Tab is comparable to that of the iPad. The only really noticeable differences in function between these tablets can be seen in battery life and the capacity of the Tab's camera. The Tab has a very poor battery life so it is a good idea to carry your AC adapter cord and charger along with you. Don't try charging the Tab in a computer while running either because it will take forever to charger. Either turn the Tab off to charge it while hooked into a computer or charge it from an outlet. The Tab's camera is an afterthought. It has difficulty focusing on images more than several feet away and can really only take pictures of a higher quality when it is a bright and absolutely clear day.
The ultimate drawback to the Acer Iconia Tab is that it is not an Apple product and is not compatible with the Apple marketplace, which has absolutely amazing applications, songs, videos, and other electronic media. This doesn't take away from the fact that Android is a great operating system but it just does not have the same appeal and access to electronic media, which is a cruel irony given the fact that the Tab has such a great audio-visual system.
